Do Children with Autism Get Special Education?

November 27, 2025

Yes. Children with autism often qualify for special education services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). These services are designed to meet each child’s unique learning and developmental needs. Special education may include individualized instruction, speech therapy, occupational therapy, and behavioral support. The goal is not only academic progress but also building communication, social, and daily living skills.

An Individualized Education Program (IEP) is central to this process. It outlines specific goals and strategies tailored to the child. Parents, teachers, and specialists collaborate to ensure the child receives the right support. Importantly, special education does not mean limiting opportunities, it means providing the tools and environment that help children thrive.

ABA therapy often complements special education by teaching practical skills and reducing challenging behaviors. Together, these supports create a pathway for children with autism to succeed in school and beyond.

At Inclusive ABA, we partner with families to provide evidence-based ABA therapy in ABA therapy in Nevada,  Nebraska,  Colorado,  Utah,  Iowa, and Ohio that works alongside special education.
